Coaching Support for Parents of Teens

Out of the Shadows Program

"Because a supported parent becomes a steady anchor"

When your teenager is struggling, it can feel like your entire world has shifted. As parents, it's easy to put your own needs aside, but parents carry grief and trauma too.

Whether your family has been impacted by mental health challenges, sexual assault, substance use, self-harm, suicide loss, or another traumatic experience, you may be carrying grief and trauma that few people recognize.

As a Certified Trauma-Informed Grief Coach, I help parents process the emotional weight they're carrying so they can move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and hope.

Through my "Out of the Shadows"™ program, you'll have a safe place to process your own experience while learning practical ways to support your teen and family.

Why Parents Join Out of the Shadows™

Parents of teens join because they’re living through moments that feel too heavy to carry alone — moments like:

  • Seeing their teen curled up on the bathroom floor after a panic attack, shaking and overwhelmed, and not knowing how to help.

  • Watching their teen shut down in their room after disclosing sexual assault, withdrawn and unreachable.

  • Finding a vape, pills, or substances hidden in their teen’s backpack and feeling fear take over.

  • Sitting beside their teen who hasn’t gotten out of bed in days because depression has swallowed their energy and hope.

  • Holding their teen after a sudden loss — a friend, a family member, a relationship — and seeing grief they don’t know how to soothe.

  • Realizing their own fear is getting in the way — snapping, shutting down, or over‑explaining because they’re terrified of making the wrong move.

  • Wrestling with emotions of guilt, fear and sadness that their hopes, dreams and expectations for their child's life has been altered.

Parents join because they want to have their pain and experiences validated and to feel safe and supported instead of judged — AND because they want to learn how to support their teen in the steady, grounded way their teen deserves.

What Is Trauma-Informed Grief Coaching for Parents?

Grief isn't only about losing someone you love.

Sometimes grief comes from losing the future you imagined for your child. The sense of safety you once felt. The family life you expected. The trust that everything would be okay.

Many parents experience grief and trauma after:

  • A teen's mental health diagnosis
  • Sexual assault
  • Suicide attempts or suicide loss
  • Substance use
  • Dating violence
  • Trauma
  • Self-harm
  • Family crisis

These experiences affect the entire family. Yet parents are often expected to keep everyone else afloat while quietly carrying their own pain.

You deserve support too.

Because parents deserve support too. Because your pain matters. Because you shouldn’t have to do this alone. Because when parents are supported, teens feel safer. Because healing happens in connection — not isolation.

Why Parents Need Support Too

When a teenager is in crisis, the focus naturally shifts to getting them help.

But parents are often left carrying invisible grief and trauma.

You're expected to stay strong, make difficult decisions, advocate for your child, and keep your family moving forward, even while navigating your own heartbreak.

Ignoring your own grief and trauma doesn't make it disappear.

When parents receive support, they're often better equipped to care for their teens, communicate effectively, and create a stronger foundation for healing at home.
