Grief Coaching for Parents of Teens

Out of the Shadows™ is a 12-week trauma-informed grief coaching program for parents of teens experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, substance use, sexual assault, suicide loss, and other family crises. Through private one-on-one coaching, you'll receive personalized support, practical guidance, and space to heal while strengthening your family.

When your teenager is struggling, it can feel like your entire world has shifted.

Whether your family has been impacted by mental health challenges, sexual assault, substance use, self-harm, suicide loss, or another traumatic experience, you may be carrying grief that few people recognize.

As a trauma-informed grief coach, I help parents process the emotional weight they're carrying so they can move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and hope.

Through my Out of the Shadows™ program, you'll have a safe place to process your own experience while learning practical ways to support your teen and your family.

What Is Grief Coaching for Parents?

Grief isn't only about losing someone you love.

Sometimes grief comes from losing the future you imagined for your child. The sense of safety you once felt. The family life you expected. The trust that everything would be okay.

Many parents experience overwhelming grief after:

  • A teen's mental health diagnosis
  • Sexual assault
  • Suicide attempts or suicide loss
  • Substance use
  • Dating violence
  • Trauma
  • Self-harm
  • Family crisis

These experiences affect the entire family. Yet parents are often expected to keep everyone else afloat while quietly carrying their own pain.

You deserve support too.

Why Parents Need Support Too

When a teenager is in crisis, the focus naturally shifts to getting them help.

But parents are often left carrying invisible grief.

You're expected to stay strong, make difficult decisions, advocate for your child, and keep your family moving forward, even while navigating your own heartbreak.

Ignoring your own grief doesn't make it disappear.

When parents receive support, they're often better equipped to care for their teens, communicate effectively, and create a stronger foundation for healing at home.

Hi! I'm Kristin Darcy & let me tell you why Out of the Shadows™ Coaching program means so much to me

This work is both professional and deeply personal.

For years, I walked alongside my teen through experiences no young person should ever have to face. As a parent, I found myself navigating the unthinkable—supporting my child through the aftermath of sexual assault, trauma, substance use, mental health challenges and the long, complicated road of grief that follows. We were doing our best to survive in a world that often expects families to “move on” long before their hearts have even begun to heal.

In those early days, I searched for resources that spoke to the real experience of parents: the fear, the isolation, the guilt, the fierce love, and the desperate hope that your child will find their way back to themselves. What I found instead were gaps—missing conversations, missing support, and missing guidance for families trying to rebuild in the dark.

My teen’s courage changed me. Their healing journey opened my eyes to how many parents are silently carrying their own grief while trying to hold their children together. And it was in that space—between what families need and what the world offers—that Out of the Shadows was born.

This program is the result of lived experience, professional training, and a deep commitment to making sure no parent or teen has to walk this path alone. Out of the Shadows is more than a resource; it’s a place for truth, compassion, and community. A place where parents and teens can finally step out of the darkness of silence and into the light of healing.

You and your family deserve support that honors your story. I’m here to offer it.
